A lot of people have stopped dining out because they’re trying to save money during the recession. The truth of the matter is that you can still dine out if you’re smart about your spending.

Here are some tips for saving money at restaurants:

  • Only spend what you have. You don’t want to take out online personal loans or run up a credit card tab on dining out. Those things should be used for emergencies. Instead only eat at restaurants if you have cash to do so.
  • Limit what you order. Restaurants offer beverages, appetizers, soups, entrees and desserts. Limit the part of the menu that you’re ordering off of to one or two of these.
  • Get something you can savor. If you truly love the taste of your meal then you’ll be satisfied with eating smaller portions and dining out less often.
  • Use coupons. Coupons are really back in vogue. Use coupons for any dining out that you do in order to keep the cost of the meal down.
  • Go vegetarian. Vegetarian dishes are usually the least expensive dishes on a menu. Plus they’re usually healthy for you!

You can still dine out if you’re sensible about it. Don’t be afraid to indulge a little bit despite facing financial hardships.
