Stair lifts are one of several devices that your business may have to consider in order to comply with a number of ADA guidelines for creating equality in the work place. If you have multiple levels where your employees work, or there are challenging transitions that might require some sort of smooth ramping, you’ll want to be ahead of the curve and take care of compliance sooner rather than later.

Not long ago, a business that had occupied the same building for nearly 100 years was cited for not providing a wheel chair bound employee with the necessary wheel chair lift that would allow them to get from the first to the second floor of the plant.

It was determined this was preventing that employee from doing their job better, which in turn was one of the main reasons the company had laid off that worker.

The irony of the situation was that in order to comply and pay out damages, the company would have been better off to have kept the employee and have the lift installed in the first place. The good news, however was that part of the settlement saw the ousted worker regaining their former position. Hopefully there was no animosity on either side of that equation.
